Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve

VDA was the Resort and Attractions Planning/Design Consultant for this project, responsible for the project brief, concept design, site analysis and layout. The “Beyond 2000” redevelopment of the facility was undertaken in an effort to revitalize and stimulate the whole park while solving existing problems, such as creating a comprehensive master plan, separation of wet and dry areas, establishing positive circulation patterns and adding revenue generating facilities to an already successful attraction.

Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve offers bathers the opportunity to enjoy natural relaxation in the many natural thermal mineral pools while encircled by native landscaping, which surround and blend with the alpine environment. Picnic areas are provided for those who wish to bring their lunch and spend the day. The Thermal Reserve is situated in the unique alpine village of Hanmer Springs, 90 minutes from Christchurch New Zealand. This facility was one of the three finalists in the 1999 New Zealand Tourism Awards – Best Visitor Attraction.
