Fort Chipewyan Aquatic Centre

This aquatic centre is not only a wonderful facility for this northern Alberta community, this is one of the best facilities you’ll find anywhere in Alberta.  The project includes the design and development of a new swimming pool facility for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in the northern community of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta.

One of Wood Buffalo’s (Fort McMurray) many rural communities now has a new recreational facility after years of campaigning with the Fort Chipewyan’s Archie Simpson Arena Aquatic Expansion. The $27 million expansion opened to the community in summer of 2016 and brings with it a host of leisure, health and financial benefits.

The facility includes a four-lane, 25-metre pool, a waterslide, water park, whirlpool and sauna. The centre’s amenities were largely based on public input from engagement sessions.

The new facility is located west of the Archie Simpson Arena and will incorporate a new physical indoor link to connect the existing arena building with the new Fort Chipewyan Swimming Pool.
