Sam Ketcham Pool Expansion

Based on successful similar experiences with older tanks in a number of other communities, VDA explored options which would result in a brand new tank with no reliance on any of the existing tank structure.  This led to the creative solution of placing the leisure pool within the existing tank and providing a new lap pool in the expansion portion of the project – something no other studies considered.

The existing 6 lane, 25m lap pool in Williams Lake (Cariboo Regional District) was originally constructed in 1979.  The pool had been leaking for many years and after numerous studies, efforts to fix the tank and failed attempts for fund-raising, a referendum passed to replace the lap pool, add a leisure tank to meet current design trends, provide a larger swirl pool, add a waterslide and provide increased fitness space.

VDA’s simple and elegant design solution results in the majority of the existing tank being left in place, in the ground with a new tank inside the old.
